How To Wash Your Splash Blanket 101

See, here’s the thing…

Fluffy blankets aren’t typically designed to be thrown in the washing machine every couple of days, especially waterproof ones. So although most of our blanket designs (excluding our yoga & picnic mats & faux fur collection) are robust and can withstand vigorous washing on a regular basis, they may obtain some wear and tear when used frequently.

Our #1 biggest hot top tip is this:

If you intend to use your Splash Blankets frequently, buy multiple to have on rotation. Infact, invest in a couple of small or extra small sizes if you use them frequently, as they will wash and dry quicker and easier than the larger sizes. The medium and large size blankets wear best and last longer when washed minimally.

With this being said, here are a few rules to washing your Splash Blankets. Let’s outline what to do, and what not to do.

Understanding Your Blanket's Lifespan and Care

Remember, your blanket may have a lifespan of about a year if you wash it regularly. All good things, when worn or used frequently will have some wear and tear, so be aware that your blanket might not be as soft and fluffy as when you first bought it.

These instructions exclude the yoga mat, picnic mat or the faux fur blanket (viking and arctic). To wash these, simply hose off or spot clean using a cloth and spray.

✅ Do's

✅ Here’s what we recommend for your Blanket:

  1. Wash your blanket solo (we don’t recommend throwing in other dirty items. Since the blanket is waterproof, your socks or knickers might get rolled up in the blanket and not even get wet!)
  2. Select your regular 30-40 minute washing setting that you would use to wash your towels or sheets.
  3. Don’t wash over 30-40 degrees celsius or over 104 degree fahrenheit (we don’t want to melt the waterproof layer)
  4. If the blanket is still soaking and heavy when you take it out, put it on another one or two spins cycles to rinse out the water.
  5. The best way to dry your Splash Blanket is to always line dry it and then finish it off in the dryer for 15-20 minutes to keep it fluffy.
  6. Use your favourite washing detergent. Softener is not needed but is a preferential thing!
  7. If you don’t own a dryer and your blanket smells from being wet too long, wash again, add in a few drops of essential oils.
🚫 Don'ts

🚫 What NOT to do:

  1. Do not wash on a delicate wash (unless you want to do weight lifting with a heavy waterlogged blanket)
  2. Do not put it on a boiling hot wash
  3. Do not wash with other items
  4. Do not put in the dryer for longer periods of time (unless you want a crunchy fried blanket). Every dryer has different settings, so it’s best to test out drying the blanket for 30 minutes first and see how it feels.

Faux Fur & Lifestyle Range

✅ Do's

✅ Here's what we recommend for your Faux Fur or Lifestyle Splash Blanket Products:

  1. Spot clean any spills and stains we don’t recommend washing these items in the washing machine as they are very large, and not designed for machine wash use. Spot clean with a damp cloth or hose it off in the laundry or outside.
  2. The best way to dry your Faux Fur Splash Blanket or lifestyle product is to always line dry it in the shade away from direct sunlight and no added heat.
🚫 Don'ts

🚫 What NOT to do:

  1. Do not wash in the washing machine
  2. Do not put it on a boiling hot wash
  3. Do not put in the dryer

Apparel & Wearables

✅ Do's

✅ Here's what we recommend for your Apparel or Wearable Splash Blanket Products:

  1. Wash it like your fave towels or bed sheets – fast spin for the win! To avoid water log, start with a bedding or sports setting and finish with a fast spin at the end of the cycle to shorten drying time.
  2. Cold or warm wash, max 30°C. Toss in your fave detergent to keep things fresh or use a scent booster to add to the luxury.
  3. Skip the delicate cycle – this apparel and wearables range likes it rough (in the wash, that is!). Delicate cycles don't spin fast enough or wash as rigorously meaning that not only will you be left with a soggy item of clothing, but also a half washed item too. Nobody wants that! Avoid the Delicate cycle!
  4. Got a stubborn stain? No problemo! Hit it with a stain remover spray before washing.

Every dryer has different settings, so it’s best to test out drying the items for 15-20 minutes first and see how it feels.
