How do I wash my Splash Blanket?

We recommend washing your Splash Blanket™ on a similar setting to your towels or bed sheets washing cycle – one with a fast spin! It’s best to wash your Splash Blanket™ separately on a cold or warm temperature cycle (20 degrees celsius maximum) adding in one scoop of washing liquid or powder.

If you wash your blanket on a delicate or gentle wash, the spin cycle will not remove the water effectively so we recommend a fast-spin wash. If you find yourself with a stain such as blood, wine or another bodily fluid, use a stain remover spray and soak for 3 - 5 minutes before adding it in the wash.

How do I dry my Splash Blanket?

To dry your wet blanket you can either a) line-dry indoors or hang outside on the clothesline (colours may fade over time if in the sunshine for too long) or b) tumble dry on the lowest heat setting for 30 minutes. If your dryer is too hot, it could melt the inner TPU layer so please closely monitor which setting you use to dry your blanket for the first few washes so you can get to know the ideal length of time and setting to use for your size and style of blanket. If the inner layer melts in the dryer, Splash Blanket™ is not liable for any damage as every dryer has different heat settings and standards. NOTE: Using the dryer may keep your blanket fluffier and softer compared to drying on the clothesline.

WARNING: Do NOT iron or dry clean and do NOT use fabric softener, bleach or vinegar on your blanket as it may compromise the integrity of the TPU layer.

If you notice your blanket has a scent or a smell after washing, you may want to add a tablespoon of bicarb or wash on a longer and slightly warmer cycle with more washing detergent, and tumble dry.

The larger blankets may take a while to dry on the clothes hanger especially if you live in a cooler climate and don't have access to a clothes line with direct sunshine. So we do highly recommend tumble drying the larger size blanket. It also keeps them nice and fluffy!

Help, my Splash Blanket is leaking. What do I do?

Unfortunately not all good things last forever and since Splash Blanket has a warranty of 12 months, we cannot replace your blanket after this period. If your blanket is leaking before this period, there could be multiple reasons why, such as a tear in the waterproof layer (hello cats claws or cheeky dog bites) or general wear & tear from washing or drying.

We recommend doing some spot checks with water to see if there is one particular area experiencing the leakage or the whole blanket.

We require an email or DM with video footage of the leak in order to replace.

What is TPU and how is the blanket waterproof?

Our blankets are both plush and practical and can hold up to a litre of liquid (bodily fluids or otherwise). The material used to make the Splash Blanket™ has been internally bonded with a waterproof internal layer, which means the outer layers can get wet and not soak through to the other side.

The waterproof layer is made of 100% recycled Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), which makes both sides of the blanket waterproof and absorbent. The TPU is a non-toxic, BPA-free and a 100% food-grade safe material that does not contain any chemicals that interfere with the endocrine or hormone system.

My Splash Blanket makes a “plasticy” sound after washing. Is this normal?

It is totally normal to hear some sound after washing your Splash Blanket™ as it contains a 100% recycled plastic Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) waterproof layer, which is bonded to the fabric inside of the blanket. This is what keeps your couch, mattress or other surfaces protected from all forms of sex juices, oils, lubes, and bodily fluids. To make the blanket completely silent, we would have to remove the TPU layer, which defeats the purpose of the product entirely.

However if your blanket sounds crunchy, you might have dried your blanket for too long in the dryer and it has melted. Devastating, we know!! Your blanket will likely still be waterproof but won’t be enjoyable with the crinkly sound. We recommend reading our washing/drying care instructions beforehand and only drying your blanket in the dryer for 30 minutes otherwise it could melt. Every dryer has different heat settings, which makes it difficult to advise on how long to dry your blanket. Hence why we suggest testing it for 30 minutes and assess.

We are continually innovating our waterproof technology and this includes improving the functionality of our best-selling blankets. Since launching in 2020, we have created a double-layer TPU film to give you even more peace of mind when having sexy time, so you can fully relax and enjoy yourself! For this reason you might notice a plastic sound after washing your blanket.

If you have sensory issues or are highly sensitive to sounds, you may prefer the Bamboo Splash Blanket™ as it is less audible than the OG Splash Blanket™.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us via email at hello@splashblanket.com or using our Contact Us page.

How long does a Splash Blanket last?

Splash Blankets™ do not have an official lifespan as it is dependent on how the blanket is washed, dried and cared for, as well as how often it is used. However we estimate that the blanket will remain waterproof for about a year depending on how often you wash your blanket.

Unfortunately not all good things last forever, so you may notice your blanket becoming less waterproof after a year or so. General wear and tear is to be expected since the blanket will be regularly washed and dried due to accumulating liquids such as body fluids, oils & lubricants, which may make the blanket less effective over time.

The good news is, we still have blankets from the original batch in 2020 that are 100% effective! So, as long as you follow the washing instructions in the FAQ, they will last a long time!

Can I use a Splash Blanket for my pets?

Our pets are naturally drawn to soft, plush, cosy blankets to curl up on and go to sleep, so you'll likely want an extra blanket for your four legged friends!

Being waterproof, they are an ideal blanket for capturing any urine leakages or incontinence, drool, dog-washing or post-beach trips in the car. A Splash Blanket™ is a wonderful accompaniment to help with those toilet training puppies or kitten accidents, as well as to support and nurture older animals who perhaps struggle with incontinence or want some extra coziness and support.

Check out our Instagram for lots of cute snaps of raving fans who happen to be puppies, kittens, guinea pigs or rabbits!

These velvety soft waterproof blankets come in a range of colours, shapes and sizes. Currently we have twenty two different colours in five different sizes including:

  1. Travel Size (50x70cm)
  2. Extra small round (40x40 inches)
  3. Small square (50x50 inches)
  4. Medium rectangle (50x80 inches)
  5. Large (2x2m) square.
What are the best selling colours?

Our best selling colours are black on black, moon blood, emerald and champagne.

When washed, does the blanket/sheets release microplastics into the water system?

Microplastics are found in marine and freshwater environments; however, their specific sources are not yet well understood. Understanding sources is of key importance in efforts to reduce emissions into the environment.

The only fabrics that don't release microplastics are organic cotton, wool, linen, and other natural fibers, such as bamboo. These fabrics do not contain the synthetic microfibers that are shed in washing machines. We sell 95% "bamboojee" waterproof blankets and sheets for this purpose.

Similar to period undies or diapers, there is a thermoplastic polyurethane layer inside the fabric to maintain a waterproof shield. This TPU layer, which is necessary in order for the blanket to be leak-proof, is securely bonded to the material and contained within the layers of the fabric. Over the space of many years and many washes, this plastic may deteriorate especially if washed in a hot wash. We recommend keeping to a warm/cool wash so the TPU doesn't melt or disintegrate.

Are Splash Blankes vegan?

All our blankets are 100% vegan. Yes, even the furry ones!! We're here to support your animals, not harm any. We have both synthetic or bamboo natural fibre blankets available.

My Splash Blanket is holding a smell. How do I wash out the scent?

To refresh a well loved Splash Blanket, wash it with a strong detergent to tackle stubborn odours. For a pleasant scent, place a few drops of essential oil (like lavender or eucalyptus) to your washing machine or a dryer ball.

Air drying in sunlight is ideal for stubborn odours, yet if using a dryer, stick to a low-heat setting. You can also sprinkle baking soda on the blanket before washing for an extra odour-fighting boost. This routine will leave it smelling great and feeling soft!

Since your Splash Blanket™ may be holding a lot of bodily fluids after sex, such as squirt, pee, come, lube, sweat, blood and other sex juices, it may still hold a bodily fluid smell after washing - depending on how you've washed your blanket.

If you notice your blanket has a scent after washing, you may want to try the following techniques:

1. Add a tablespoon of bicarb
2. Wash on a longer cycle
3. Wash on a warmer cycle to kill bacteria
4. Add more washing detergent.
5. Wash your Splash Blanket™ twice!
6. Wash on a faster spin cycle (like you would wash your towels or sheets).
6. If it's been wet too long, wash again and dry in the dryer for 30 minutes.

The larger blankets may take much longer to dry on the clothes line, especially if you live in a cooler climate, so if it's wet for longer it might start to smell damp. If you don't have access to a clothes line with direct sunshine, we suggest washing and drying at a laundromat. Test the dryer before committing to drying longer than 30 minutes as you risk melting the TPU any longer in the dryer.

Our hot tip? Buy multiple smaller size blankets that can be washed and dried quicker and easier.
